Invitation

You are cordially invited to participate in an informal Underground Railroad and Civil War Round Table discussion, to be held in Marietta, Washington County, Ohio on the Week-end of July 18^th – 20^th, 2008 hosted by Belpre Historical Society, Henry Robert Burke and Robert Lett. Goal:

A relaxed and enjoyable discussion about the inter-connected aspects of the Underground Railroad and American Civil War in relationship to (Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and (Western) Virginia.

Each participant is asked to write a short summary of their research area . Individual summaries will be consolidated into binder folders for each researcher to keep for future reference.

There will be about a twenty mile round trip tour to view some significant Underground Railroad and African American Civil War history sites along the Ohio River Valley in Washington County, Ohio and Wood County, West Virginia.

Friday Evening, July 18, 2008, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.:

· Dinner and social greeting at the historic Levee House Café, 127 Ohio Street, Marietta, Ohio by the historic Ohio River. The Levee House Café is listed in Top 10 Restaurants in Ohio!

Saturday, July 19, 2008:

· 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. meet for Brunch at Levee House Café.

· 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. tour Marietta, Constitution and Belpre Underground Railroad. Distance of 12 miles.

· 12:30 p.m. – 1:45 Round Table discussion at Belpre Historical Society meeting room.

· 1:45 p.m. – 2:15 Break

· 2:15 – 4:00 – Continue Round Table discussion

· 4:00 p.m. Tour Parkersburg and Williamstown, West Virginia Underground Railroad and arrive back in Marietta at 5:00 p.m. Saturday evening is optional socializing .

· 7:00 p.m. Riverboat Cruise (Option – time tentative)
