Remember the Civil War Memorial Dedication in Washington, DC?  Remember the great numbers we had at Fort Pocahontas?  What about Gettysburg?

I want to knock New Haven on it’s feet with the same numbers or even better than we had at these events.  I am a descendant of a soldier in the 29th Regiment and was born in New Haven.  Believe me the young people need to have a good visual of what Black Civil War Soldiers looked like.

Please join me in this celebration of the men of the 29th Regiment.  This is a very exciting event.  If you are going to participate, please

contact and coordinate with Jackie Buster jbuster9@comcast.net

On Saturday, September 20, 2008, a special dedication of a new monument memorializing the contributions of the Connecticut 29th Colored Regiment (Black Civil War Unit) will be held in New Haven. On behalf of the Descendants of the Connecticut 29th C.V. Infantry Inc.,

I am inviting members of the historic Massachusetts 54th Regiment  to participate in this historic event. The 29th Monument Dedication to the Connecticut 29th Infantry will be held at the monument installation site at 2 P..M.  in Criscuolo Park , located at James and Chapel Streets, in New Haven, Connecticut. Immediately following the dedication ceremony,  from 4 - 6 PM, there will be an open reception for the general public at the John Martinez School.  And then, a very special private reception, hosted by the Amistad Committee of New Haven, CT will be held at the New Haven Historical Society  where guests will be able to meet the artist, Edward Hamilton.

Criscuolo Park was formerly Grapevine Point, the original encampment site of the famous Connecticut 29th Colored Regiment; volunteers who fought in the Civil War. The monument design was completed by the famous sculptor, Ed Hamilton, whose nationally recognized commissions include the Spirit of Freedom African-American Memorial in Washington, D.C., the Abraham Lincoln Memorial in Louisville, Kentucky and the Joe Louis Memorial in Detroit, Michigan. The 29th Monument Dedication for the Connecticut 29th Colored Regiment will be a memorable event in Connecticut and United States history. Students will meet and hear the stories of the descendents of black and native American soldiers that fought in the American Civil War. We are currently building the program for the afternoon ceremony and are hopeful that your group will join in the celebration.  To find out more about the men who fought for the Connecticut
